By the highest destiny, you found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||

bin gur pooray naahee uDhaar.
Without the Perfect Guru, no one is saved.

baabaa naanak aakhai ayhu beechaar. ||2||11||

The four Vedas proclaim it, but you don't believe them.

khat bhee aykaa baat vakhaaneh.
The six Shaastras also say one thing.

ds AstI imil eyko kihAw ] (886-4)
das astee mil ayko kahi-aa.
The eighteen Puraanas all speak of the One God.

qw BI jogI Bydu n lihAw ]1] (886-4)
taa bhee jogee bhayd na lahi-aa. ||1||
Even so, Yogi, you do not understand this mystery. ||1||

kinkuree anoop vaajai.
The celestial harp plays the incomparable melody,

jogee-aa matvaaro ray. ||1|| rahaa-o.
but in your intoxication, you do not hear it, O Yogi. ||1||Pause||

pRQmy visAw sq kw KyVw ] (886-5)
parathmay vasi-aa sat kaa khayrhaa.
In the first age, the Golden Age, the village of truth was inhabited.

iqRqIey mih ikCu BieAw duqyVw ] (886-6)
taritee-ay meh kichh bha-i-aa dutayrhaa.
In the Silver Age of Traytaa Yuga, things began to decline.

duqIAw ArDo AriD smwieAw ] (886-6)
dutee-aa arDho araDh samaa-i-aa.
In the Brass Age of Dwaapur Yuga, half of it was gone.

eyku rihAw qw eyku idKwieAw ]2] (886-6)
ayk rahi-aa taa ayk dikhaa-i-aa. ||2||
Now, only one leg of Truth remains, and the One Lord is revealed. ||2||

eykY sUiq proey mxIey ] (886-7)
aykai soot paro-ay manee-ay.
The beads are strung upon the one thread.

gwTI iBin iBin iBin iBin qxIey ] (886-7)
gaathee bhin bhin bhin bhin tanee-ay.
By means of many, various, diverse knots, they are tied, and kept separate on the string.

iPrqI mwlw bhu ibiD Bwie ] (886-7)
firtee maalaa baho biDh bhaa-ay.
The beads of the mala are lovingly chanted upon in many ways.

iKMicAw sUqu q AweI Qwie ]3] (886-8)
khinchi-aa soot ta aa-ee thaa-ay. ||3||
When the thread is pulled out, the beads come together in one place. ||3||

chu mih eykY mtu hY kIAw ] (886-8)
chahu meh aykai mat hai kee-aa.
Throughout the four ages, the One Lord made the body His temple.

tah bikh-rhay thaan anik khirhkee-aa.
It is a treacherous place, with several windows.

Kojq Kojq duAwry AwieAw ] (886-9)
khojat khojat du-aaray aa-i-aa.
Searching and searching, one comes to the Lord's door.

qw nwnk jogI mhlu Gru pwieAw ]4] (886-9)
taa naanak jogee mahal ghar paa-i-aa. ||4||
Then, O Nanak, the Yogi attains a home in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. ||4||

i-o kinkuree aanoop vaajai.
Thus, the celestial harp plays the incomparable melody;

sun jogee kai man meethee laagai. ||1|| rahaa-o doojaa. ||1||12||
hearing it, the Yogi's mind finds it sweet. ||1||Second Pause||1||12||

taagaa kar kai laa-ee thiglee.
The body is a patch-work of threads.

la-o naarhee soo-aa hai astee.
The muscles are stitched together with the needles of the bones.

AMBY kw kir fMfw DirAw ] (886-11)
ambhai kaa kar dandaa Dhari-aa.
The Lord has erected a pillar of water.

ikAw qU jogI grbih pirAw ]1] (886-12)
ki-aa too jogee garbeh pari-aa. ||1||
O Yogi, why are you so proud? ||1||

jip nwQu idnu rYnweI ] (886-12)
jap naath din rainaa-ee.
Meditate on your Lord Master, day and night.

qyrI iKMQw do idhweI ]1] rhwau ] (886-12)
tayree khinthaa do dihaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The patched coat of the body shall last for only a few days. ||1||Pause||

ghrI ibBUq lwie bYTw qwVI ] (886-13)
gahree bibhoot laa-ay baithaa taarhee.
Smearing ashes on your body, you sit in a deep meditative trance.

myrI qyrI muMdRw DwrI ] (886-13)
mayree tayree mundraa Dhaaree.
You wear the ear-rings of 'mine and yours'.

mwgih tUkw iqRpiq n pwvY ] (886-13)
maageh tookaa taripat na paavai.
You beg for bread, but you are not satisfied.

nwQu Coif jwcih lwj n AwvY ]2] (886-13)
naath chhod jaacheh laaj na aavai. ||2||
Abandoning your Lord Master, you beg from others; you should feel ashamed. ||2||

chal chit jogee aasan tayraa.
Your consciousness is restless, Yogi, as you sit in your Yogic postures.

sinyee vaajai nit udaasayraa.
You blow your horn, but still feel sad.

gur gorK kI qY bUJ n pweI ] (886-14)
gur gorakh kee tai boojh na paa-ee.
You do not understand Gorakh, your guru.

fir fir jogee aavai jaa-ee. ||3||
Again and again, Yogi, you come and go. ||3||

jis no ho-aa naath kirpaalaa.
He, unto whom the Master shows Mercy

rhrwis hmwrI gur gopwlw ] (886-15)
rahraas hamaaree gur gopaalaa.
- unto Him, the Guru, the Lord of the World, I offer my prayer.

naamai khinthaa naamai bastar.
One who has the Name as his patched coat, and the Name as his robe,

jan naanak jogee ho-aa asthir. ||4||
O servant Nanak, such a Yogi is steady and stable. ||4||

ieau jipAw nwQu idnu rYnweI ] (886-16)
i-o japi-aa naath din rainaa-ee.
One who meditates on the Master in this way, night and day,

huix pwieAw guru gosweI ]1] rhwau dUjw ]2]13] (886-17)
hun paa-i-aa gur gosaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o doojaa. ||2||13||
finds the Guru, the Lord of the World, in this life. ||1||Second Pause||2||13||

karan karaavan so-ee.
He is the Creator, the Cause of causes;

I do not see any other at all.

thaakur mayraa sugharh sujaanaa.
My Lord and Master is wise and all-knowing.

gurmukh mili-aa rang maanaa. ||1||
Meeting with the Gurmukh, I enjoy His Love. ||1||

AYso ry hir rsu mITw ] (886-19)
aiso ray har ras meethaa.
Such is the sweet, subtle essence of the Lord.

gurmukh kinai virlai deethaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, taste it. ||1||Pause||
